“Pawz too Run” campaign to culminate with a 5k race on Apr. 2 in Davidson
An eighth grade student at Cannon School is turning a challenge from her middle school principal into a campaign to help local animals in need. Joanna Copio, of Davidson, is organizing “Pawz too Run,” a public education campaign to promote responsible pet ownership that will culminate on Apr. 2 with a 5k race in Davidson to raise funds for Friends of the Animals, a non-profit organization with plans to build a state-of-the-art regional animal adoption and education center.
Last summer, Matt Rush, Cannon School’s head of middle school, challenged students to develop ideas through which they could show leadership and better serve their communities during the school year. Joanna responded by developing a plan to raise funds to benefit Friends of the Animals to help facilitate the adoption of homeless pets in the Davidson and Mooresville areas and provide low-cost spay/neutering of domestic animals.
