Athletic Results from Wednesday, March 30

  • The varsity track team competed on a damp dreary afternoon yesterday at Charlotte Country Day School against the host school, Charlotte Christian, Lake Norman Charter and Woodlawn.  Despite the weather there were some very strong performances. Our event winners included Jane Campbell in the 100m Hurdles (18.4), Vicky Ghahhari in the shot put (23’ 8.5”), and Tim Gruber in the 1600 m (4:38.4).  Emily Ranson placed 2nd in the discus, qualifying for states with a throw of 69’ 5”, with Vicky Ghahhari 3rd (58’ 0”).  Emily also placed 2nd in the shot put (21’ 9”) behind VickySarah Wiebusch had two 3rd place finishes in the long jump (12’ 5”) and the high jump (4’ 4”), and Cassie Calvert placed third in the 3200 m with a time of 13:32.5, and improvement of 18 seconds from last weeks meet.  Bekah Harmon also had a great improvement in the 1600 m, running a 6:41.6, which was 27 seconds faster than last Thursday.  Andrew Powell had another strong showing in the 800 m taking 3rd in 2:10.9.  In the boys throws, Kevin Ross placed 4th in the shot put (36’ 6”) and was 2nd in the discus (108’ 3”), while Wesley Scott was 5th in the shot (36’ 3”), while Wil Safrit threw three consecutive PR’s in the discus finishing 6th at 92’ 3”.

The track team will have their first home regular season meet next Wednesday April 6th on the Tysinger Track at 4pm
