  • The MS baseball Cougars concluded their 2011 campaign with a 16-2 loss to Providence Day in round 1 of the GCMSAA playoffs.  PDS hit the ball all day long, including seven balls that blooped in down both lines en route to their win.  The game marks the second consecutive year that Cannon was bounced from the tournament by PDS.  Cole Lippincott allowed eight runs, four earned, in two innings, allowing six hits, walking three and hitting one, while striking out three.  Mark Calcagno and Everett Craven pitched one inning of relief allowing four runs each.  Craven recorded two strikeouts on the mound in his inning of work.  At the plate, Lippincott led the charge going 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, in addition to securing the batting title as a 7th grader.  While the boys finished the season without a win, the future looks bright with many seventh graders getting tons of experience and the sixth grade talent waiting on deck and eager to start playing in the program.  See you in 2012!

  • The Cougars (middle school lacrosse) came roaring back from 4 goals down at the half to beat Providence Day, 7-6 yesterday in the first round of the Greater Charlotte Middle School Lacrosse Conference Tournament.  Sam Oddo lifted the Cougars with a tremendous defensive play that led to a fast break goal by Davis Nelson just 40 seconds into the second half.  The team would carry this momentum, scoring 3 more goals and tying the game at 5’s with under four minutes in the game.  PD would take the lead with 3:30 remaining in the game.  Nelson answered again just thirty seconds later with great transition play from defenseman David Ratte.   Tied at 6’s, Addison Hearn set up Nelson for his fifth goal of the game with 2:30 remaining.  The defense would hold strong as the Chargers made one more charge at tying the game.  Scoring Summary (Goals, Assists): Danny Brenner (2,2); Davis Nelson (5,0); David Ratte (0,1); Addison Hearn (0,1).  The team will head to south Charlotte to play top-seeded Charlotte Latin today at 4:30 pm.

  • Although the MS girls soccer team lost yesterday 1-3 to Charlotte Latin, they had a great end to the season.  The girls worked hard as a team and played with heart and great effort.  The Cougars’ goal came off a penalty kick taken by Kendall Thomas after a handball in the box by Charlotte Latin.  Great Season girls!  Your coaches are very proud of your heart and hard work this season!

  • In game 2 of the 3 game series, the varsity baseball team lost a close game to Charlotte Latin on the road by a score of 4-3. The Cougars jumped off the bus and had lightning in their bats and scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning and another run in the 3rd.  The defense held Latin scoreless until the hawks swooped down and got 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and another in the 4th inning. The Cougar bats cooled off,  but the defense stayed tough until the bottom of the 6th inning when Latin scored on a safety squeeze to put them up 4-3 going into the 7th inning. Cannon came to the plate in the top of the 7th staying aggressive with the bats but came up short. We are very proud of the guys and their effort yesterday. Leading hitters for Cannon were Justin Redfern, Connor Lippincott, Alex Chandler, Scott Krusell and Julian Nunez. Bradley Barnhart and Ryan Marks also gave great efforts on the mound. The Cougars are back in action this afternoon at home for Senior Day at 4:30.

  • The middle school softball team lost to Charlotte Latin to conclude their season.
